Sedums
This is a large group of succulent-leafed, herbaceous plants that are mostly perennial and hardy. Gardeners often refer to them by the common names of Stonecrop or Live-forever. These names indicate their robust growing nature and the fact that the plants can often establish themselves on rock and wall surfaces.

The foliage is always succulent but may be evergreen or deciduous. The leaf forms from one variety to another can run the gamut from large to minute, maintaining a diverse series of shapes and seasonal color variations. Foliage colors exhibit some rich shades of blue-grays, greens, reds and purples with the glaucous white-silver hues of others also causing a great deal of attention. The flowers are usually small but can be showy and attractive with colors ranging through yellow, white and pink.

Some of the forms are erect and bushy, but we have concentrated at this time on offering the more dwarf creeping and trailing varieties. These are mat forming or sprawling plants and their succulent stems and leaves make them top notch groundcovers.

Sedums are known for their ability to grow under the most trying conditions. Bright harsh sunlight, poor soils and drought conditions do not phase these plants and where little else could ever grow, Sedums can flourish. In fact some excellent results have occurred with Sedums enduring dry shade conditions under trees. For best results, avoiding excess winter moisture by incorporating excellent drainage into the planting area eliminates this as a potential cultural challenge.
